Why is javascript required to view our email addresses?

There are email spam programs that search websites for email addresses to send spam to. To combat the thousands of spam messages we recieve, we display our email addresses using javascript, in a method that these spam programs cannot detect.

Most web browsers are not affected by this method, and most of our site visitors are likely not even aware that we are using this method.
